National Seminar on Literacy Development in Nepal

National Seminar on Literacy Development was organized on 11 Sept 2012 at NRC-NFE on the occasion of International Literacy Day, 2012. The seminar was jointly organized by NFEC and NRC-NFE. The main objective of the seminar was to discuss on how to effectively implement literacy programs particularly Literate Nepal Mission (LINEM) in Nepal and roles and responsibilities of different sectors including GOs, I/NGOs, CLCs and schools in LINEM. Total of 23 persons representing different organizations had participated in the seminar. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Babu Ram Poudel, Director of NFEC. In his inaugural speech, he expressed heartfelt thanks to NRC-NFE for organizing the seminar. He appealed for active involvement, commitment and collaboration from all the stakeholders to achieve the expected target of the National Mission.
The resource persons for the seminar were the Deputy Director Mr. Keshab Dahal from NFEC, Mr. T.M.Sakya and Mr. D.B. Shrestha from NRC-NFE. 4 papers were presented in the Seminar one each from NFEC on Concept of LINEM, NRC-NFE on ways for effectively implementing LINEM, DEO, Bhaktapur on roles of DEO for LINEM and Siddhi Mangal Higher Secondary School on role of school in LINEM. Each of the presentations was followed by open discussion. The concept of LINEM developed by NFEC was appreciated by all the participants. The seminar discussion was focused on how to materialize the concept and make LINEM successful to meet the goal of making all illiterates among 15-60 years literate by the year 2015.
