About NRC-NFE / CEFA

The National Resource Center for Non Formal Education (NRC-NFE) and Center for Education For All (CEFA) came into existence with the aim of providing education to all children, youth and adult through the non formal ways because the formal education is rigid, inflexible, time bound and place bound. That type of education will not meet the needs of many people in Nepalese society especially rural people. The NRC-NFE/ CEFA believes that Education is much broader than schooling alone. Education could happen at home, farm, forest, street, etc. Therefore, it would be absurd to equate education only with schooling. Education should provide not only tools of learning that is reading, writing, and calculating skills, but it also should provide knowledge and skills to increase income and help to improve quality of life of the people.

At first, the CEFA was set up in the Kavre District in 1992 to help the literacy campaign launched by the Banepa Municipality. Similarly, the NRC-NFE was also set up to promote education for all through Non Formal Education means in 1995. Later, CEFA was shifted to Lalitpur District and merged with NRC-NFE to work together and has become NRC-NFE/CEFA

Now, the center has its own building. Asia/ Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU), Japan provided support to build the building. The training hall of the center was built with support from Bell Mark Foundation through the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ). The building was built in the land donated by Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Sakya. Therefore, the center has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all of them.
